The beach faces west and catches a lot of swells, perfect for both beginner and experienced surfers. But winter waves can be dangerous, so be cautious if you’re new to surfing.
Getting to the beach is easy. Short, well-maintained wooden stairs wind down from the clifftop. Up there, you’ll find a big car park (perfect if you bring your car). During the summer months, a few refreshment stalls pop up near the car park, and you can even rent surfboards, beach chairs, and umbrellas for a fun day at the beach.
Just an 8-minute drive away is Praia da Bordeira, where you can hike a challenging 4.6-mile loop trail. And if you head 35 minutes north, there’s another beach, Praia da Arrifana. This makes Praia do Amado the perfect base to explore all three beaches in a single-day trip.
